It's been a busy August for the Oregon National Guard.

"We expect to be operational within a few hours of landing in Houston", Bancroft said. "We are linking the Coast Guard's tactical operations centers to the air assets so messages as far as Orange, Port Arthur and Beaumont [Texas] to help coordinate rescue efforts". The state's "Red Arrow" Infantry Brigade Combat Team and some Army aviation soldiers are being told they could be a part of the National Guard's response. They've dropped more than 750,000 gallons of water on the fires by helicopter.

On Monday the helicopters and guard members were used to move cargo around the Houston area.
