OH health officials have confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus reported in the state this year.

Officials say the man did not need to be hospitalized and Clermont County Public Health will conduct an environmental assessment of the area.

There have been 131 cases of people testing positive for West Nile virus in CT since 2000.

Mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus have been found in the Kingston area for the first time since 2013.

With mosquito season upon us, the West Nile virus has been making its rounds across the state.

"We don't want people to be overly concerned but we want them to avoid mosquito bites", Lalonde said.

West Nile virus surveillance in Utah is underway and will continue into the fall.

A viral disease, EEE affects the central nervous system and is transmitted to horses by infected mosquitoes. In rare cases, a person can be become ill through a blood transfusion.

The city is urging residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of West Nile virus.

West Nile virusseason typically occurs from June through September, and although the month of August is waning, state health departments around the country continue to report new human cases of the virus as well as associated deaths.

Use mosquito repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus when outdoors.

Residents should ensure that their doors and windows have tight-fitting screens to keep mosquitoes out.

Wear long sleeves and trousers during peak mosquito hours, which are around dawn and dusk.

Eliminate standing water in your yard, where mosquitoes can breed.
