AT&T erroneously revealed the presence of the Galaxy S8 Active without publicly making a statement about it but as of right now, the flagship is official and starting from tomorrow, customers can start making pre-orders of the smartphone. Samsung Galaxy S8 Active comes with 4,000mAh battery instead of 3000mAh battery found in normal version. The phone is created to withstand extreme conditions like 5 feet underwater for 30 minutes or to survive a drop of upto 5 feet on a flat surface. The main selling point is the protection against shocks, shattering, water, and dust, with Samsung saying this is "the toughest Galaxy smartphone" it's ever made.
The company says the phone is a "premium solution for life's everyday missteps" that also features the best parts of the traditional Galaxy S8. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clubbed with 4GB RAM.
It also features 'Activity Zone, ' a function of the phone's personal assistant Bixby that gives users quick access to features for active lifestyles such as a stopwatch, barometer, compass, and flashlight.
Know this, though: Previous models of Galaxy Active devices have sometimes been less water resistant in real world tests, despite Samsung's claims. Pricing is set at $28.34 per month 30 months with AT&T.
Want to pre-order? AT&T is hosting a bunch of promos to sweeten the deal if you do.
If you're a little confused about where the new phone fits in Samsung's line-up, it's the same screen size as the Galaxy S8, though a little bulkier overall.
We're still waiting on that full list of specs, but from what AT&T and Samsung have given us, this is very much like Active phones from the past.
For now, AT&T is the go-to spot for Samsung latest rugged, durable device.
