One minute Sterling Shepard, the second-year receiver for the Giants, was running a route in one-on-one drills early in Wednesday's practice and the next he was on the ground with his right leg being looked at by trainers and eventually carted off the field. After a few minutes, a cart was summoned and Shepard was taken off the field for further evaluation.

McAdoo would not describe it as a high or low ankle sprain. Doctors examined his left ankle according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

After he put together a solid rookie season in 2016, the New York Giants began training camp hoping that wide receiver Sterling Shepard would take another step forward in 2017.

That has torn ACL or ruptured Achilles tendon written all over it.

The team focused on improving the team's offense, which struggled heavily last season. This does not look good for the player or organization as it is a loss to the great Giants receiver core.

To lose Shepard for an extended period of time would be a tough blow for the Giants to absorb as they look to improve upon last season's 11 wins.

Either way, the Giants are hoping for the best outcome from this situation.

"A basketball-type ankle (injury)", coach Ben McAdoo said. The veteran could sit out the next couple of days for rest. Pierre-Paul is a big part of the Giants defense and he is an unbelievable player.
