Jaguars DE Dante Fowler arrested in St. Petersburg

Dante Fowler arrested on two misdemeanor charges

Fowler hit the man, knocked off his glasses and stepped on them, police said. Cops say the victim didn't have any visible injuries.

After making a $650 bail, Fowler was released from police custody at 1:43 AM this morning.

Details about the incident have not been released.

Fowler was charged with simple battery and criminal mischief.

The Jaguars posted a brief statement on Twitter: "The Jaguars are aware of the situation involving defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and are now gathering more information". Police noted that the Jaguars defender proceeded to throw the victim's grocery bag with "recently purchased liquor", into a lake. The team has been in communication with Dante.

The 22-year-old is a defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars who played for the Florida Gators in college. "No further comment will be made at this time". On the first day of the team's rookie mini-camp, however, Fowler tore his ACL and ended up missing his entire rookie season. His arrest comes one week before veteran players are scheduled to report for the Jaguars' training camp. Last year, he struggled to make an impact with four sacks. The Jaguars took Fowler ahead of other prominent collegiate defensive ends like the USC Trojans' Leonard Williams and the Clemson Tigers' Vic Beasley.
