Claudia Winkleman, Chris Evans, Gary Lineker - the broadcaster's highest earners revealed

Question of Sport and tennis presenter Sue Barker is the best-paid woman at BBC Sport, earning between £300,000-349,999.

Further salary leaks include Eastenders stars Danny Dyer and Adam Woodyatt, who reportedly earn £200,000 to £250,000 each, are paid more than multi award-winning actress Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey.

The BBC has published what it pays senior managers for several years but has always resisted calls to declare the salaries of on-screen "talent", saying it would have an inflationary effect in a competitive market.

And of course, I'll admit here that my knowledge of BBC television personalities perhaps isn't the best, but with the exception of Mishal Husain, who sits in the £200,000 to £249,999 bracket, numerous stars cited as being on the highest-paid lists are white.

Across the United Kingdom men earned 18.1% more than women in April 2016 according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

One presenter who hosts a number of shows across the corporation said: "I wouldn't want to be the highest paid newsreader on the list".

Elsewhere, it was confirmed that Auntie seems to like to reward its actors for longevity as Adam Woodyatt, Albert Square's Ian Beale, also earned £200,000 to £249,000.

This means that despite being the highest paid judge in the country, Lord Thomas - due to step down later this year - pants about £2 million less than Evans.

"The data published today clearly demonstrates how BME presenters and actors are viewed by the BBC: they are not part of the elite".

He admitted that he had taken "a couple of sizeable pay cuts" recently and said he approved personally of the pay figures being made public.

This is what BBC Woman's Hour presenter Jane Garvey had to say. Within this, the bill for top talent (those who earn more than £150,000) was down 10% to around £28.6 million year-on-year.

"Is that where we want to be?"

The BBC has revealed the salaries of its highest paid stars, and one thing is clear-it pays to be a man.

Not only does the report reveal disparities between what male and female stars are paid, "but also between what white stars and those from a black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) background are paid", reported the BBC today.
