The latest rankings of the 50 most valuable franchises is out from Forbes Magazine and, once again, the Kansas City Chiefs are listed with a value of $1.88 billion. Ahead of the 2015-16 season, Adidas became United's new kit sponsor worth almost $1 billion over the next 10 years.
United are worth $3.69bn according to Forbes, a valuation that puts them ahead of reigning European champions Real Madrid who had previously been named football's richest for four years running. Despite the nice growth in overall value to $1.88 billion from last year's valuation of $1.53 billion, the percentage drop in growth is quite a bit, since last year the Chiefs increased in value almost 40 percent year over year.
"Relocations and new stadiums are fuelling big increases in the value of National Football League teams, with the Cowboys the economic model every franchise hopes to match", said Kurt Badenhausen, senior editor, Forbes Media.
Forbes says no National Hockey League, F1 or Nascar teams made it into the top 50.
The Los Angeles Rams (formerly of St. Louis) made the list at No. 12 overall, and valued at $2.9 billion. This is the second straight year Jerry Jone's team has been at the top of the list.
