Police body cam video captured a man popping the question while being arrested on six felony warrants. "But I knew I was gonna say yes", Keith said to News On 6.

'I want her to be my wife for the rest of my life, ' he added.

The arresting officers ― who cuffed Thompson while he was celebrating not only Independence Day, but also his birthday ― took pity on him.

The Root adds that Thompson was arrested for charges that stem from possession of a firearm as a felon to a missed court appearance.

"I asked the officer if I could propose", Thompson later told CNN.

"When the other officer told me he was gonna propose I think my initial response was, are you kidding me?" said Lincoln Anderson, Muskogee Police Department spokesman.

The video from police shows Thompson telling his mother to get the ring and getting down on one knee. "Will you be my wife, please?" Then, the officers switched Thompson's handcuffs from behind his back to his front so that he could place an engagement ring on Keith's finger.

Although he was taken aback when he learned of Thompson's proposal request, Anderson said something good might arise from the instance.

Thompson told CNN he's exhausted of running and plans to turn his life around.

WTVD News reported that Thompson's new fiancee bailed him out the day after his arrest. She thanked police for allowing her boyfriend to propose - calling them "amazing".

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 17. "We care about the city we serve and the people in it".

"We all want to see someone get their life on track", said Anderson.
