North Korea demonstrated its ability to reach the continental USA with a nuclear-capable ballistic missile on July 4, but close analysis of launch footage may point to another unsafe technological development.

North Korean state media sharply criticized the USA on Sunday for a recent practice bombing run on the Korean peninsula, calling it a risky move raising the risk of nuclear war.

The B-1B bombers conducted the live-fire exercise at a range in South Korea's eastern Gangwon province, dropping weapons in a simulated attack on a missile launcher.

On Wednesday, the USA and South Korean militaries fired simultaneous ballistic missiles in a simulated attack against the DPRK, as a "strong message of warning".

North Korea on Tuesday test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time, an apparent game-changer in its confrontation with Washington over its nuclear and missile programmes.

"Of course, as always, you have our absolute support in your efforts to ensure peace and stability is restored on the Korean peninsula", Mr Turnbull said.

The Pilsung Range is located in the center of South Korea and is jointly operated by the US and South Korean air forces, CNN reported.

In a separate meeting, Abe and Jens Stoltenberg, secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two sides to reinforce the foundations of cooperation among Japan, the United States and Europe amid an increasingly tough security environment in East Asia.

On a visit to Washington last month, Moon laid out pre-requisites for full-fledged talks for nuclear dismantlement including North Korea refraining from nuclear and missile tests and promising a nuclear freeze. Abe said that Japan and Sweden would work together to combat terrorism.

Macron offered congratulations on Moon's election and said he is aware of how much importance Moon attaches to the issue of South Korea's national security.

As North Korea poses more and more of a ballistic and nuclear threat to world order, the United States has tried to put more and more pressure on the country.

The US is also expected to test its THAAD missile defence system against an intermediate-range ballistic missile in the next few days.
