Trump's Harassment of Female Irish Reporter Draws Rebuke

Trump, Varadkar in first phone greeting

Trump congratulates Ireland's first out gay Prime Minister for 'great victory'

United States president Donald Trump on Tuesday made an unusual move of inviting Irish journalist to his desk during a phone call with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

He was on the phone to the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar when he beckoned RTA's Washington Bureau Chief Caitriona Perry.

"She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well", Trump said to the prime minister. Even if you're the President of the United States, bringing unwanted attention to a woman to compliment her looks, especially one who is at the White House to report on worldly matters, is not flattery.

Social media users blasted Trump's comments - describing him as "creepy" and the fact he singled her out as "disgusting".

Perry herself referred to the moment as "bizarre".

Trump then pointed to Perry, called her over to his desk and asked where she was from.

In the past, Mr Varadkar said that he is a fan of the Canadian's work and noted that "we have a lot in common as countries".

During Trump's light discussion with Varadkar, he interrupted the call to summon Perry to his desk.
