I've been banging the drum for the Browns to pick their quarterback of the future louder than anyone, but even I don't want to pass up on Garrett's potential.
Cleveland's star cornerback said Tuesday he'd be "super excited" if the Browns chose Texas A&M's Myles Garrett next week with the top pick in the National Football League draft. But the two deepest positions in this draft are defensive back and defensive end. Focus on improving the team. As a run defender, he may never get to the level of a Von Miller or a Khalil Mack, but he can affect the quarterback and his improvement in the run game should have him playing at a reasonable level if used in the right capacity.
This is the sixth and final installment of these mock drafts, all with the goal of trying to project players the Browns will target this year.
Detail view of Cleveland Browns helmet against the Washington Redskins during the second half at FedEx Field. Garrett has All-Pro potential, but he's not flawless. It's like the Ron Wolf theory - when the [Packers] had Brett Favre, they kept drafting QBs - they'd draft one every year - Matt Hasslebeck, Aaron Brooks, Mark Brunell, Ty Detmer - [and] they flipped all those guys for draft picks. Well, guess what? Debate is necessary.
This is not to say some rumors may not come true, but it would be a total shock if Garrett wasn't taken with the No. 1 pick. I'm also cautiously optimistic he'll live up to expectations. "As I've said, we're open for business".
